Opening New Doors

I’ve been thinking for a while about starting a blog.

I’m not a writer, and I won’t pretend this will be the best piece of writing. I’m not even sure how this will unfold. I plan to share my process, my sketches and unfinished drawings — and even my imperfect musings and reflections.

My journey began as a painter, with dreams of making it big — to exhibit, to be written about in journals, and (secretly) to be famous. I even made it as far as being called a “postmodern surrealist to watch out for.”

Then marriage and a beautiful boy 😍reshaped my priorities. Somewhere along the way, the young artist’s dream gave way to another kind of life.

In my 40s, my creativity sparked again. It hadn’t died, luckily 😅— just quietly changed direction.

I began to draw again. It wasn’t perfect, and nothing like what I used to do —but it felt freer, and this time it wasn’t about chasing a dream. I just wanted to draw for its own sake.

Eventually, I found myself in children’s illustration.

I hadn’t planned it — but it felt just right. What started as a way back into drawing became something joyful and deeply meaningful. I guess when we stop worrying about outcomes, we create more honestly than before.

Five years in, I’ve illustrated many books, learned a lot — and I’m still learning on the job. I’m beginning to explore new directions, and this blog is one of them.

Like I said, I’m not a writer. But I hope these honest words — and the journey I share here — will resonate with some of you.

So if you’re still reading this, thank you for getting this far 😃🙏

I hope this space becomes worth returning to — for both of us!
